Beta Reader Program - Unscrewed Marketing

Thank you for your interest in the Beta Reader program for Unscrewed Publishing (non-fiction) and Fractured Ink Press (fiction).

This is not a traditional ARC program designed to collect public reviews. Our Beta Reader Program gives selected readers access to pre-publication manuscripts specifically to provide private feedback to the publisher, editor, and author before a book is finalized.

Because you may be reading a manuscript while it is still actively being edited, our selection process and reader requirements are different from those of a traditional ARC program. Beta Readers agree to keep manuscripts and their contents strictly confidential, provide feedback privately rather than publicly, and follow our confidentiality and non-disclosure requirements.

You do not need previous ARC, beta reading, or publishing experience to participate. If you enjoy reading and can provide thoughtful, honest feedback, and can turn that around in about two weeks, we would love to hear from you.

Beta Reader Agreement

Please read and check each statement to confirm your agreement.

Confidentiality & Non-Disclosure *I understand that manuscripts I receive are unpublished, confidential intellectual property. I agree not to disclose, discuss, publicize, or share information about a manuscript or its contents without written permission from Unscrewed Publishing. This confidentiality obligation continues after my reading period and participation in the Beta Reader Program have ended. We take protection of author copyright very seriously.

No Sharing or Distribution *Access to each manuscript is provided only to me. I will not share the manuscript, access or download links, passwords, excerpts, screenshots, photographs, or copies with anyone, including members of my household. Anyone else who wishes to participate must apply separately and receive their own authorization.

No AI or Third-Party Uploads *I will not upload, submit, copy, or provide any portion of an unpublished manuscript to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, other generative AI or machine-learning systems, AI summarizers or analysis tools, or other third-party services that could store, process, reproduce, or use the manuscript content.

Private Feedback Only *I understand that I am receiving an unfinished manuscript for private reader feedback, not a final Advance Review Copy (ARC). My feedback will be provided privately to Unscrewed Publishing for use by the publisher, editor, and author. I will not post public reviews, ratings, commentary, quotes, reactions, screenshots, videos, social media posts, Goodreads entries, or other public content based on the manuscript.

Feedback & Participation *When I accept a manuscript invitation, I will make a good-faith effort to provide thoughtful feedback within 14 days unless a different deadline is provided. If I am unable to complete the manuscript, I will notify Unscrewed Publishing. Joining the Beta Reader Program does not guarantee that I will be selected for any particular manuscript or receive invitations at any particular frequency.

Intellectual Property Rights *I understand that receiving a manuscript gives me no ownership, publication, reproduction, distribution, adaptation, licensing, or other rights to the manuscript or its contents. I will not copy, sell, trade, lend, distribute, publish, or otherwise use the manuscript except as necessary to participate in the Beta Reader Program.

Program Terms & NDA *I understand that participation and manuscript access may be revoked if I violate these requirements. I have read and understand the Beta Reader Program requirements above and agree that these terms constitute my confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement with Unscrewed Publishing as a condition of receiving access to unpublished manuscripts.

What happens next

Signing up for the reader pool will not immediately provide access to anything.

When a manuscript becomes available, we will invite a limited number of Beta Readers based upon the author’s needs, reader interets, and availability. You are not guaranteed an invitation to any or all manuscripts. There is no guaranteed frequency or timing of invitations.

The email invitation will provide brief information on genre/topic, approximate length, deadline, and possibly content warnings.

You will be able to accept or decline. You are not required to accept any minimum number of manuscripts to remain in the program, and you may withdraw at any time by simply contacting us.
