Just “more marketing” isn’t the answer.
Your business doesn’t need another person doing marketing things.
It needs someone who knows which marketing things will actually move the business forward.
You can find capable people to build a website, run SEO, manage ads or automate a process. Those specialists work within their brief. The harder question is whether that brief solves the right business problem.
Unscrewed Marketing starts with your business. We determine the constraint, what deserves attention first, what can wait and which work will support revenue before recommending a service.
More traffic?
Maybe.
A new website?
Possibly.
More social posts?
Maybe not.
More SEO?
Depends.
AI?
Sometimes.
The expensive mistake is deciding where to invest before figuring out what’s holding you back.
FOLLOW THE BUSINESS, NOT THE SYMPTOM
Explore the connections. The most visible problem isn’t always the one that needs fixing first.
SELECT AN AREA TO SEE HOW WE THINK ↓
We look at your best customers, how they make decisions and what they value. More reach won’t help if you’re reaching people who were never a good fit.
Sometimes the issue is what you’re selling, how it’s packaged or whether it supports profitable growth. Promotion can’t make an ill-fitting offer into the right one.
We examine the difference between what you know you deliver and what a customer understands. Weak positioning can make an excellent business look interchangeable.
Sometimes it really is an SEO, advertising or visibility problem. We look at the evidence before choosing a channel or increasing the budget.
Enough leads can still produce too little revenue. Response time, follow-up, handoffs and the sales process may be where the opportunity is lost.
Customer experience affects repeat business, referrals and retention. We look at whether the promise and the actual experience support each other.
Competent employees and vendors can still operate in silos. Clear priorities, responsibilities and connected systems reduce dependence on one person.
AI can remove repetitive work, assist analysis and support customers. First we check whether the process, inputs and purpose are sound.
Growth may be held back by capacity, hiring, profitability or operational decisions. Sometimes the problem isn’t actually a marketing problem.
What looking at the whole business means
Someone finally connects the work.
One company runs ads. Another built the website. Someone else does social posts. Nobody reviewed the messaging. Nothing connects to a revenue plan. You’re paying for the parts, and doing the connecting yourself.
A shared business goal. Clear priorities. Work that supports the same result.
Make the reason to choose you clear before adding more traffic.
Fix what you’re selling before paying to promote more of it.
Improve response and follow-up before prescribing more leads.
Establish leadership and priorities before buying another tactic.
Diagnose the constraint →
Set the priorities →
Choose the tools →
Lead the implementation →
Fixing the wrong thing really well still leaves you with the wrong thing.
Sometimes, it really is SEO. Somtimes it’s positioning or your offer. Sometimes you already have enough leads and lose too many afterwards. Sometimes different competent vendors accidentally create a disconnected mess. Sometimes the owner has become the system holding everything together.
Sometimes the problem isn’t just a marketing problem.
Business-first thinking / The Evidence
These outcomes came from different businesses and challenges. The lesson isn’t to buy the same tactic; it’s to know which problem deserves attention first.

A business serving families in Broken Arrow’s neighborhoods needs a different strategy than a professional firm competing across the Tulsa metro, or a manufacturer selling to specialized buyers across the country.
Yet all three could be offered the same SEO package, advertising campaign or social media plan by most agencies.
Your address doesn’t determine your marketing strategy. Your customers, competition, capacity and growth goals do.
That’s where Unscrewed Marketing starts. We figure out who you’re really trying to reach, what makes them choose you, and what needs to happen between their first encounter with your business and actual revenue.

A growing market doesn’t guarantee a growing business.
More potential customers can also mean more competitors, more choices and more noise. Growth creates opportunity, but it doesn’t tell you which customers are profitable, what makes them choose one business over another, or whether your business is positioned to capture that demand.
The opportunity isn’t simply to do more marketing. It’s to know where your business can win, what makes customers choose you, and where your next investment will actually pay off.
The right customers matter more than the biggest audience.
Reaching more people isn’t automatically better. The goal is to identify the customers who are the best fit, most profitable to serve and most likely to choose you, then build your marketing around reaching them.
Relationships can build a business. But can they sustain its next stage?
Referrals, reputation and community connections can generate business for years. But when the owner is still responsible for every new opportunity, growth becomes difficult to predict—and harder to scale.
More leads aren’t always the first answer.
Before spending more to attract customers, find out whether your business can convert and serve the demand it already has. The next constraint may be follow-up, staffing, capacity or the way work moves through the business.
Local business situations / possible priorities
Manufacturing & Specialized B2B
Your best customers may never visit Broken Arrow.
If you manufacture components, provide specialized services or sell business-to-business, more local website traffic may accomplish very little. The better opportunity could be reaching a small group of qualified buyers, supporting a long sales cycle, strengthening technical credibility or helping sales teams turn interest into contracts.
Established Local Businesses
Your reputation got you here. What’s driving the next stage?
Referrals, repeat customers and local relationships are valuable. But if growth still depends on the owner’s personal connections—or nobody can explain which marketing activities bring profitable customers—it’s time to build something more predictable without losing what already works.
Professional Services & Healthcare
Being found isn’t the same as being chosen.
A prospective client or patient may compare businesses in Broken Arrow, south Tulsa, Bixby and beyond. Visibility matters, but so do trust, differentiation, reviews, the website experience and how quickly someone responds. Getting more inquiries won’t solve a weak path from inquiry to appointment.

For entrepreneurs ready to grow
You’ve proven the business can work. Now build something that can grow.
You’ve proved people will pay for what you offer. Now the question is how to grow without wasting money on marketing you don’t need.
For a Broken Arrow business, that might mean becoming the first choice in a particular neighborhood, reaching customers across the Tulsa metro, or building a reputation in a specialized market far beyond Oklahoma. Those are different growth strategies; and choosing the wrong one can be expensive.
You don’t have to wait until marketing becomes a mess to get experienced direction. Build the right thing now instead of spending years undoing the wrong thing.
A foundation that grows with you. We can help you decide what marketing makes sense, avoid spending on work you don’t need yet, and build a customer journey that connects the first inquiry to the sale.
A better place to begin
A few focused questions. One practical place to start.
The website. SEO. Social. Advertising. Email. CRM. Analytics. Automation. Freelancers. Agencies. There’s plenty happening.
“Every expert says something different.”
“I’m doing a lot – but not making the money I should.”
“I don’t want to rebuild this again in six months.”
A business can grow for years on referrals, reputation, long-standing customer relationships and an owner’s industry connections. But those strengths can also disguise the fact that nobody is really directing the marketing.
Eventually, you’re paying for a website, SEO, ads, email and perhaps several vendors, yet you’re still the person trying to connect everything.
The answer may be marketing leadership. Or the real problem may be positioning, measurement, sales follow-up, capacity or spending on the wrong things. We find out before recommending another investment.

Find the underlying problem, determine what actually deserves attention, and reconnect your marketing around what drives revenue.

You may already have a person, a department, an agency, and campaigns. A Fractional CMO is an experienced marketing executive who works with your business for the leadership it needs: establishing strategy, setting priorities, directing people and partners, and overseeing implementation.
Vicky Davis Wu brings 30+ years of senior marketing experience, including CMO-level leadership, work helping grow multi-million- and multi-billion-dollar organizations and consulting with Fortune 500 companies.
You get someone who understands Broken Arrow, but brings experience making marketing decisions at a much larger scale, without assuming your business needs a big-company budget or a big-company marketing department.
The marketing decisions that deserve a senior perspective.
Market investment. Revenue loss. Positioning for expansion Budget priorities. internal capacity. Agency direction. Where AI belongs.
Which customers, markets and opportunities are worth pursuing—and which would stretch our budget or team too thin? Whether we’re strengthening our position in Broken Arrow or expanding beyond it, investment decisions should be based on profitable growth, not simply more visibility.
Look beyond lead volume to sales handoffs, conversion, customer experience, retention and the constraints preventing growth.
Set priorities for internal employees and agencies. Decide what to keep internal, outsource, automate or stop, and where AI belongs.

NO AI EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
You don’t have to walk in knowing which AI tool you need. You don’t even have to know whether AI is the answer.
Tell me what isn’t working or what you want to improve, and we’ll work forward from there. We’ll determine whether AI, a better process or a different approach makes sense for your business.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB
Use AI to organize knowledge, assist analysis and reduce repetitive work—with useful inputs, review and a clear business purpose.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB
A faster tool won’t repair an unclear handoff. Sometimes better responsibilities, fewer steps or a consistent follow-up process make the biggest difference.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB
When the offer, audience or priorities are wrong, automation only gets you to the wrong place faster. Establish the business direction first.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB
Relationship building, sensitive customer conversations and consequential decisions deserve human judgment. Use technology to support the person doing the work.
Possible applications / the business benefit comes first
Lead response & sales support
A Broken Arrow home-service company may need a better way to respond to inquiries, qualify requests and follow up before prospects move on to another provider. AI might help; but first we make sure the customer process itself works.
Reporting & decision support
A company serving customers across the Tulsa region may have leads, sales and marketing data scattered across different systems. The opportunity isn’t necessarily another dashboard. It’s making the information useful enough to guide decisions.
Internal knowledge & workflows
A manufacturer or growing professional-services firm may have important knowledge locked in employees’ heads, emails and scattered documents. Better systems—and sometimes AI—can make that knowledge easier to use without creating another complicated tool to manage.
Discover AI strategy for your business
Sometimes AI is the answer. Sometimes it isn’t.
Knowing the difference is the valuable part.
Once we know what matters, we can make it happen.
We don’t start by selling you a service. We start by figuring out which service solves your problem.
The work follows your market, not a preset package. A Broken Arrow retailer trying to win nearby customers may need stronger local visibility and repeat business. A professional firm expanding across Tulsa may need sharper positioning and a better sales process. A specialized manufacturer may need technical content, targeted B2B outreach and sales support. Different businesses, different priorities, and different work to get results.

Training for Your Team
We can implement. Lead. Or hand it back.

We can oversee implementation, connect existing specialists, or provide training so that your existing team can carry the work forward. Or even help you hire and train the right team. The right arrangement depends on your capacity and the challenge.
1976
My first chapter in Broken Arrow
I didn’t just discover Broken Arrow through Google.
Dad moved here in 1976 to work at the Ford Motor Glass Plant, where he retired. I spent every summer here in Broken Arrow. I was here when stop signs were still at the end of highway on-ramps, the convenience store was still Kum & Go, and BA was much smaller than it is now.
My career has taken me into larger markets and increasingly complex marketing operations, including work with multimillion- and multibillion-dollar companies.
And I’ve chosen to bring that level of expertise back to Broken Arrow.
You don’t have to choose between someone who understands Broken Arrow and someone whose experience extends far beyond it. You get both.
Before you make your first move.
Business first. We don’t start with assumptions about what you need.
Have a different question? Let’s talk.
Absolutely. I can advise your team, set priorities, coordinate agencies and specialists, and connect the work to business goals. Existing people and partners can remain part of the solution.
You work directly with a marketing executive with 30+ years of experience working with multi-million and multi-billion-dollar organizations and Fortune 500 companies, not just a team executing tactics. I look at the whole business—marketing, sales, customer experience, and operations—to identify what’s driving growth, what’s wasting money, and what’s holding you back. Then I help you fix it, from strategy through implementation. The goal isn’t more marketing; it’sefficient and better business results.
When marketing needs an experienced executive to establish strategy, set priorities, lead employees and agencies, and oversee implementation. A Fractional CMO provides that level of leadership for the scope your business needs. A defined strategic consulting project may fit best when you need help with one decision or challenge, or ongoing monthly support. I believe every company will benefit by bringing in someone for strategy, even the smallest solo entrepreneurs for a couple of hours of consulting.
That depends on where your best customers are, how far they’re willing to travel or buy from, and where you can compete profitably. A neighborhood service business may need a tightly focused local strategy. A professional firm may benefit from reaching customers across Tulsa, Bixby, Jenks and surrounding communities. A specialized B2B company may need a national strategy. We look at your actual market before deciding where to invest.
Definitely! That’s a useful starting point. We examine customers, offers, positioning, branding, channels, sales, customer experience, teams and systems, to understand the constraint before recommending work.
Both. We can execute marketing, lead existing employees and vendors, or solve a defined strategic challenge and hand the work back once the direction is established.
Yes. We look at research, internal knowledge, reporting, workflows, lead response, customer experience, sales support and repetitive work, as well as content and discoverability. The decision begins with the business benefit.
Yes. Positioning, messaging, and candidate acquisition can support recruiting efforts.
Your location and your customer market are always different questions. We build strategy around where your buyers are, how they make decisions, and what supports your growth, including national and international markets.
Nope. Broken Arrow is part of my history and where I have chosen to bring my experience. We have always worked with businesses in any location, primarily US-based companies but some international as well.
You don’t need to know yet. Start with your challenge. A defined question may call for strategic consulting. Ongoing decisions and team direction may call for Fractional CMO leadership. Once priorities are established, we can implement the work, lead your existing team, or train them to carry it forward. We can help you determine which route may be right in an initial consultation.
It’s a great place to start! You don’t need to wait until something with marketing has broken to benefit from experienced strategy … we’d actually rather see you get that solid foundation set right. We can help you evaluate your customer, offer, positioning, customer journey, and spending priorities before you build a system that you’ll later need to undo.
Your business. Your next stage of growth.
Let’s figure out your right next move.
You don’t need to arrive with the answer.
Bring the business challenge. We’ll start with you there.
